Herman Li

It has a bolt-on neck made of maple and walnut with a 24 fret rosewood fingerboard. The upper frets on the guitar are scalloped. The body is made of mahogany with a flame maple top stained purple sporting gold tuners and an Edge Zero locking tremolo. The pickups are also custom-designed signature models made by DiMarzio.
Before Li received his signature model, he had been been known to play Ibanez S Prestige guitars, a seven string Ibanez (used in Revolution Deathsquad, Storming the Burning Fields, and the "bridge" section of Operation Ground and Pound), and a decade old Ibanez S5470. Herman also has been seen playing both an Ibanez S2170FB and an Ibanez S2170FW.

Alexi Laiho

Band - Children of Bodom

Alexi Laiho has used the Lee Jackson GP-1000 Preamp and Marshall JCM 800 cabinets (with Celestion speakers) and various power amps for most of his career but has recently started using the Kerry King Signature Marshall head. He first used an Ibanez RG 220B to record the first Children of Bodom record and eventually switched to Jackson Guitars and used them for several years until one of his guitars was stolen. He asked Jackson to make him another one, but the time-table they gave him for its production was too long (around a years time). They treated Alexi like a normal customer because the Jackson guitar company was bought out by Fender. ESP came to him and said that it would take around 3 months for his new signature model to be up and running so of course, Alexi took this offer. Thus he switched to ESP guitars, and also signed a contract with them making it so that he could only use their guitars live with Children of Bodom.

Kurt Cobain

Band - Nirvana

Kurt Cobain used a modified 1965 sunburst finish Jaguar with a Gibson Tune-O-Matic type, black chrome Schaller bridge, modified circuitry, and humbuckers. It was his main guitar during the Nevermind era and featured a red-swirl mother-of-bowling-ball pickguard, one volume knob, two tone knobs, and a bound neck. There was tape covering the on/off and phase switches, which were disconnected and replaced with a Gibson-style toggle switch. Full-sized humbuckers reside in both the bridge and neck positions, the neck being a DiMarzio PAF and the bridge a DiMarzio Super Distortion, until the In Utero tour when it was replaced with a black Duncan JB.

J Mascis

Band - Dinosaur Jr.

The guitar that he only plays is a Fender Jazzmaster. He got his first one at a pawn shop while going to get a Fender Strat but it was not there so he got the Jazzmaster in its place and stook with him. He now has his own signature verson of it with a glitter blue paint job and a tune-o-matic bridge.

Jimmy Page

Band - Led Zeppelin

He was know mostly for the use of a Gibson Les Paul Standard. He mostly played a Sunburst version of the guitar which had a chrome plate humbucker at the neck and a single coil combo humbucker at the bridge. He was also know for being on of the first people to play a custom double necked Gibson SG with stock hardware.

Bob Marley

Band - Bob Marley & the Wailers

He was most commonly know for playing his own custom made Gibson Les Paul. It had a flat top on it instead of the standard hump in it. It has a custom pick board added to it along with wide set single coil pickups.

Greg Ginn

Band - Black Flag

For the majority of Black Flag's existence, Ginn used an Ampeg Dan Armstrong Lucite electric guitar with an interchangeable pickup nearly exclusively. The guitar had become extremely worn out after intensive use and was stolen on April 16, 1986. Ginn would play it so hard that sweat (as well as blood) would seep inside the guitar and cause it to short circuit. To fix this problem he soldered the tone and volume knobs in place and installed a waterproof switch. Ginn does not use any effects pedals-every sound he gets is from his amp and guitar.

Mike Jones

Band - The Clash

Jones' first guitar was a Gibson Les Paul Junior with a P-90 pickup, which he bought since Johnny Thunders used one. The Junior were his main guitar up until late 1977 early 1978.

Aaron Abeyta

Band - NOFX

The instruments he plays, and because at the time he joined the band there were already two 'Erics', and that an 'Aaron' would just be too much. El Hefe plays a 1978 Fender Telecaster Guitar that has been fitted with EMG-T pickups through a Jim Dunlop 535Q Crybaby Wah pedal. He uses a Mesa/Boogie mark III amplifier head.

Justin Sane

Band - Anti-Flag

Justin plays a ESP/LTD EC series guitars which resembles a Gibson Les Paul. He has two EMG pickups in it.

Steve Jones

Band - The Sex Pistols
He was most commonly know for playing a Gibson Les Paul studio with Gibson humbuckers.

Chuck Schuldiner

Band - Death

Schuldiner's primary guitar throughout most of his career was the B.C. Rich Stealth model, an extremely rare model available only through the BC Rich custom shop until 2008, when it was released to the public. Prior to this, he used a BC Rich Mockingbird. Most of Schuldiner's sound came from a DiMarzio X2N pickup placed in the bridge. During the (In)Human Tour of the World (1991-92), Schuldiner briefly endorsed a small Wisconsin custom guitar company called Axxtra, who worked with him on designs, though he still insisted on using his BC Rich during filming of the Lack of Comprehension video in September 1991 in Orlando.
